You Will Not Break

“He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 1:6
There’s something sacred about the making of bread. It’s a quiet parable of death and resurrection. The dough is stretched and pressed until it gives way, then set aside to prove. Fermentation transforms its nature; what once resisted now becomes pliable in the baker’s hands, ready for the fire that fuels its rise. We can clearly see the purpose in this process. Every step is necessary for the bread to become what it was created to be.
So why is it easier to trust the process in the kitchen than the one happening in our own souls? We watch the bread rise, fall, and rise again—never doubting that the baker knows what he’s doing. Yet when God begins to shape us—stretching, waiting, refining—we so quickly assume something has gone wrong. But He is no less intentional. Like a master baker, He knows what the dough can bear and how long the waiting must last. We often resist the very pressure meant to form us.
The discomfort of spiritual kneading may feel like cruelty, but it’s preparation. The pressure draws out strength, binding everything together so it can withstand what’s ahead. Being set aside to wait is not neglect but necessary rest, where growth happens in hidden places. And the heat that follows does not destroy—it reveals what the kneading accomplished: endurance and character that could not have been formed any other way. What emerges is no longer fragile, dense, or raw but ready to nourish others with the grace it has received.
The life of faith seems to follow this pattern for the believer—resistance, surrender, transformation. In trusting submission, we are remade. What once felt like breaking becomes proof of His shaping. You will not break; He knows what He’s doing. He is still at work, forming you into what you were created to be....
Like Him.
Trust His process. Yield to His timing. And when the fire comes, remember: it’s the final step before the rise.
Reflection Question:
When in your life have you felt as if you were breaking—and how might you begin to see God’s shaping in the midst of it?
Prayer:
Father, You know the weight I carry and the pressure I feel. When life stretches and presses me, remind me that Your hands are steady and kind. When I’m set aside and waiting, teach me to rest in Your purpose. And when the heat comes, help me trust that it is not to destroy but to strengthen me. Shape my heart until it reflects Your image, and make me into someone who bears Your likeness and nourishes others with Your love. Amen.
