Strength in the Wilderness
Share
There are seasons in life when our faith feels vibrant, alive, and full of purpose. But there are also seasons when we feel spiritually dry—when God seems distant, prayers feel unanswered, and doubt starts creeping in.
If you’ve ever felt this way, you’re not alone. Even Jesus experienced the wilderness.
“Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.” (Matthew 4:1)
Before Jesus began His ministry, He spent 40 days in the wilderness—hungry, tested, and isolated. The enemy came at Him with lies and temptation, but Jesus stood firm by relying on God’s Word.
The Wilderness: A Place Where God Speaks
In biblical tradition, the wilderness isn’t just a place of hardship—it’s often where God speaks, refines, and draws His people closer to Him.
- Moses met God in the burning bush in the wilderness (Exodus 3:1-2).
- Israel was led through the desert for 40 years, where God provided, shaped them, and prepared them for the Promised Land (Deuteronomy 8:2-3).
- Elijah fled to the wilderness and heard God’s whisper, not in the wind or fire, but in a still, small voice (1 Kings 19:11-12).
And in Hosea 2:14, God says something unexpected:
“Therefore, behold, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak tenderly to her.”
God doesn’t always keep us from the wilderness—sometimes, He leads us there on purpose. Not to abandon us, but to draw us closer, strip away distractions, and remind us that He alone is enough.
Maybe you're in a wilderness season right now.
- You feel tired from waiting on God’s direction.
- You feel tempted to doubt His goodness.
- You feel alone, wondering if He still hears you.
But here’s the truth: God does some of His greatest work in the wilderness. The silence is not abandonment—it is often an invitation to listen more closely.
Keep Hoping, Keep Trusting
Even when things seem uncertain, dare to hope.
The prophet Jeremiah understood this. As he mourned over Israel’s suffering, he still clung to God’s faithfulness:
📖 Lamentations 3:21-23 – “Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this: The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.”
If you're in a dry season, hold on. The wilderness is not the end of your story. God is shaping you, teaching you, and leading you. Stay rooted in His Word, stay faithful in prayer, and trust that He is near—even when He feels far.
🙏 Prayer: Lord, in seasons of spiritual dryness, help me to trust You. Intercede for me, Jesus, so my faith won't fail. I believe that You are working, even when I can’t see it. Let me recognize Your voice in the wilderness and follow where You lead. Amen.

📖 Isaiah 43:19 – “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”
