Renewing Your Strength
Share
Life never slows down. The responsibilities keep piling up—work, family, relationships, church, errands, unexpected crises—and somehow, we’re just supposed to keep going. But what happens when we can’t keep up?
What do we do when the load is too heavy, the to-do list never ends, and exhaustion starts to shape not just our bodies but our souls?
The world tells us to push harder, hustle more, and maximize every moment, but God never intended for us to live in a constant state of exhaustion.
“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” (Isaiah 40:31)
You Were Never Meant to “Keep Up”
For many of us, our exhaustion isn’t just about what we’re doing—it’s about why we’re doing it.
Yes, responsibilities are real. Bills have to be paid, children need care, and commitments must be honored. But why are we carrying everything the way that we are?
- Are we overcommitted because we struggle to say no?
- Are we doing too much because we crave approval?
- Are we micromanaging outcomes because we don’t trust God enough to rest?
Even the right things can be done for the wrong reasons.
Maybe you pour yourself into serving at church, taking on every role available. Serving is good—but are you doing it out of devotion or because you’re afraid of disappointing people?
Maybe you say yes to every work opportunity, not because you feel called to it, but because you’re afraid of falling behind or not having enough.
Many of these things come from a genuine place of care, but God calls us to examine our hearts. What are we actually seeking? His will—or our own sense of control? His provision—or the illusion of security through our own effort?
Jesus doesn’t tell us to strive harder—He tells us to abide.
“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.” (John 15:4)
If we’re constantly running on empty, maybe we’re chasing things that were never meant to sustain us.
The Power of Waiting on the Lord
God’s design for renewal isn’t found in mere self-care trends or time management hacks. Renewal happens when we wait on Him—not passively, but by intentionally letting Him shape our priorities, purify our hearts, and restore our souls.
The Hebrew word for "hope" or "wait" in Isaiah 40:31 (qavah) means to bind together, to entwine—like strands of a rope being woven into something stronger.
When we wait on the Lord, we aren’t just sitting still. We are actively trusting Him, being strengthened by Him and woven together with His power instead of relying on our own.
Practical Steps to Find Strength in the Middle of Life’s Demands
1. Examine Your Heart’s Motivations
- Are you striving out of fear? Comparison? A need to prove yourself?
- Ask God to purify your heart so that your work is an offering of worship, not a burden of self-worth.
2. Create Space for God to Speak
- Silence doesn’t come naturally in a noisy world. Where can you create small moments to pause, pray, and listen?
- It could be before checking your phone in the morning, during your commute, or in a short break between tasks.
3. Set Healthy Boundaries
- Not every demand is from God. Sometimes, the best way to honor Him is by saying “no” to the things He never asked us to carry.
- Reflect on your schedule: Are you making time for rest, worship, and relationships, or is your life ruled by endless productivity?
4. Trade Striving for Abiding
- Instead of measuring your worth by how much you accomplish, ask: Am I abiding in Christ today?
- The goal is not just to be productive—it’s to be faithful and spiritually full.
Let Go & Let God Renew You
If you’re feeling weary today, you are not alone. The solution isn’t to push harder—it’s to turn to the One who gives strength.
- Instead of striving, surrender.
- Instead of rushing, rest.
- Instead of carrying everything alone, lean into His power.
God doesn’t just give us a little extra energy to get through the day—He renews us completely. When we stop chasing after everything and start resting in Him, He provides what we cannot produce on our own.
🙏 Prayer: Lord, I come to You weary and in need of renewal. Show me where I’ve been striving instead of abiding. Purify my heart so that I don’t chase after the wrong things—or even the right things for the wrong reasons. Teach me to wait on You and to trust that You alone are my source of strength. Amen.
